The 2024 college football season will be the most competitive and compelling year fans have ever seen for two reasons: conference realignment and the expanded playoff format.

Many fans were worried about conference realignment due to the traditional nature of college conferences. The Pac-12 was founded in 1959, and with its collapse at the end of the 2023 season, 10 of the 12 teams found new homes in 2024. Additionally, Oklahoma and Texas left the Big 12 for the SEC.

While it might be upsetting to see so much change to the college football dynamic we've known for decades, conference realignment will revolutionize the game we all love.

Many believe that the SEC is the hardest conference to win in, and it just became even more challenging with the addition of Texas and Oklahoma. Texas made the playoff semifinals in 2023 and looks even more dangerous heading into 2024. They could give SEC defenses fits this season and will be looking to win the conference in their inaugural season.

Don't be surprised to see every SEC team with at least a couple of losses in 2024 due to the challenging schedules each team faces.

Additionally, Oregon will be looking to make a splash in the Big Ten this season. They have one of the top coaches in the country, Dan Lanning. After dominance from both Ohio State and Michigan in recent years, Oregon has a legitimate chance to wear the Big Ten crown at the end of the season.

With Cam Rising healthy heading into this season, Utah looks primed to finish as the Big 12 champion in their first season in the league.

There is a real chance that the champions in the SEC, Big Ten, and Big 12 will all be teams in their inaugural season in each respective conference.

Additionally, with the expansion of the college football playoff from four teams to 12 teams, the quality of play across college football and the hype for the games will be at another level this season. Even teams with three losses will have a legitimate shot at making the playoff.

As a fan, there is often a letdown when your team gets its second loss of the season because you know that likely eliminates your chances of making the playoff. However, with the expanded playoff format, fan bases know that their team is still very much in contention at the end of the season, even with two or three losses.

The 2024 college football season promises to be one of the most exciting in history.

With significant conference realignments and an expanded playoff format, the landscape of college football is set for a thrilling transformation.

Fans can look forward to unprecedented competition and a season where every game matters, keeping their teams in contention longer than ever before. This year, college football will reach new heights of excitement and unpredictability.
