To date, Clemson has only offered a handful of cornerbacks in the 2025 class.
Timothy Merritt (Parker, Birmingham, Al) is one of the few players at the position to have been offered by corners coach Mike Reed and the Tigers, picking up his after an unofficial visit last week.
The visit was one that stood out for Merritt, as he was treated like a priority at all times.
“Clemson is a family,” Merritt told All Clemson Tigers. “They treated me like I was a priority from the time I touched campus. It’s also bigger than football, it’s a family over there.”
Merritt said he is still in the process of building a relationship with Reed, but so far he likes what he has seen.
“Coach Reed’s coaching style is straight up,” Merritt said. “He’s gonna love on you but also tell you the truth. Our relationship is getting better day by day. He hits my phone asking how things are going. His resume speaks for itself for sure.”
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound corner already has 20 offers, including LSU, Penn State, Tennessee and Texas, but with Clemson being so selective, the one from the Tigers stands out.
“It’s a huge deal for me coming from not playing my freshman year to having an offer from Clemson,” Merritt said. “Clemson always has been one of those schools where I wanted an offer from and I don’t take it lightly at all.”
Merritt currently has no timeline for making a decision. He plans to visit LSU and possibly Kentucky this summer. For now he is planning to enjoy the recruiting process while searching for what he feels is the right fit.
“I’m taking it one day at a time, I’m trusting the process,” Merritt said. “Looking for playing style, coaching, something that’s bigger then ball. And the last thing I’m looking for is somewhere I can play early.”
