All Clemson Tigers' Recruiting Mailbag (Recruiting)

You’ve got recruiting questions and we have the answers.

Welcome to the All Clemson Tigers’ recruiting mailbag, where we will answer your recruiting questions. Or we will at least attempt to do so, as recruiting is a world with many moving parts and an ever-changing landscape where circumstances can often change in a flash.

With that in mind, let’s dive in.

Luke: Are we done recruiting for the 2024 cycle? Including transfers?

Right now, Clemson is right at that number of 85 scholarships, but it would be naive to assume there is no more attrition between now and next fall. Another portal window opens up after spring practice.

All that to say, there is a little wiggle room. Although, I do not expect the Tigers to add any more players from the high school ranks to the 2024 class. I also know what Dabo Swinney said about the portal and DE before the Gator Bowl, but I am not buying that door is completely shut. There is a long time between now and the start of fall camp. But it would take the right guy.

I also think the staff is still open to the idea of adding another interior OL, if the right opportunity should present itself. While Clemson does return four of its five starters from the season opener against Duke, they do lose starting center Will Putnam. Ryan Linthicum has been patiently waiting his turn, and Harris Sewell, as well as Ian Reed could also be options, but if the right plug and play guy were to become available, I think the staff would take their shot.

Bill: Who are some of the names for the Elite Junior Day?

I covered this here earlier in the week. Names that have confirmed with me they are coming are 4-star DT Isaiah Campbell, 3-star OL Mal Waldrep and 4-star OL Jaylan Beckley. I expect 4-star OL Brayden Jacobs to be on hand but have not confirmed it yet. The closer we get the more names that will come out.

4-star DE London Merritt told me he is hoping to come, but was not sure about his schedule just yet. However, Merritt has transferred to IMG, and it is safe to assume that will impact Clemson's interest. 4-star WR Jordan Allen also told me he was not sure of his plans for that weekend just yet.

Chris: Any thought Clemson might reach out to Alabama center Seth McLaughlin that entered the transfer portal?

From my understanding that has already happened. The Tigers recruited him hard when he came out of high school as part of the 2020 class, so there is some familiarity there already. McLaughlin is already slated to visit Ohio State this weekend, so we will have to wait and see how far the Tigers get.
