Bakich Focused on Being the Best at Getting Better in Year 2 (Baseball)

How does a team improve on winning the ACC Tournament, hosting a regional and being a top-8 national seed in year 1 of a new head coach's tenure? Easy if you are the Clemson Tigers--you just get better.

For head coach Erik Bakich, that is the goal in year 2, to simply be better than they were a year ago.

"We don't measure our success by somebody else's opinion or a ranking. We want to be the number one ranked team at getting better. Let's be the best at getting better," Bakich said. "And if we can do that, then we'll be able to build off of last year's success. Ultimately, we had some bright spots. We have an ACC championship that we'll always be able to celebrate."

Don't misunderstand Bakich's statement, or think he is satisfied with last year's success by any stretch. He understands what the goal is because it is printed on the back of every hat.

"But ultimately, we finished not in Omaha. And we want to take the next step for this program and to bring a national championship to Clemson University for the Clemson baseball program," Bakich said. "And so everything that we do is about improvement so that when that time does come many months from now when it's time to compete in the postseason, we have earned the opportunity to get hot. Because it's not the best team who wins. It's a team that plays the best. And in order to play the best, you got to earn that opportunity to get hot when it means the most. And so we take each day as an opportunity to get better and let's be the best team in the country at getting better."
