Blake Miller Praises Clemson's Offensive Line Coach Matt Luke, Credits Him for Penalty-Free Season and Joe Moore Award Contender Status (Football)

Clemson, S.C. – Clemson Tigers offensive lineman Blake Miller spoke to the media today about his new offensive line coach, Matt Luke, and the impact Luke has had on the team’s offense. Miller also discussed the standout season the offensive line is having and being named a contender for the Joe Moore Award.

Miller has made a name for himself at Clemson. A 2022 Freshman All-American and 2023 All-ACC selection, he entered the 2024 season having played 1,949 offensive snaps over 27 career games, all starts.

Since arriving in 2022, Miller has started every game for Clemson at right tackle. He was the first Clemson non-specialist to start every game of the season in both his freshman and sophomore years since Clelin Ferrell (2016-17).

This season, however, Miller has a new offensive line coach, Matt Luke.

Today, Miller praised Luke, saying he does a great job of energizing the offensive line while keeping them composed so they don't go overboard during games.

Miller also noted that Luke has played a pivotal role in helping him reduce penalties that hurt the team last season. In 2023, Miller had six penalties, many from false starts. However, six games into this season, he has yet to draw a flag, and he credits Luke for helping him correct this issue.

Miller explained that Luke's emphasis on getting game-like reps in practice helped him realize how tense and uptight he had been, which contributed to his penalties last season. He also appreciated Luke’s approach, saying the coach isn't overly negative but instead focuses on correcting mistakes when they occur.

The coaching change seems to be paying off, as the Clemson Tigers' offensive line has been nominated for the Joe Moore Award, given to the best offensive line unit in the country. However, Miller emphasized that the team isn’t focused on accolades but on maintaining high-level play throughout the season.

Miller was also asked about the role running backs coach C.J. Spiller has played in improving pass protection. He credited Spiller for having the running backs work with the offensive line in practice, which has been crucial in protecting quarterback Cade Klubnik during passing plays.
