Blake Miller: ‘Winning Matters’ at Clemson

Blake Miller, Peter Woods (Jason Priester All Clemson)

Clemson starting offensive linemen Blake Miller met with the media ahead of the season-opening matchup against Duke and discussed a number of topics.

  • After getting acclimated in his freshman season, Miller feels like he is prepared to take a big jump this season. Now that he has learned the system, he can now focus on the “finer details such as learning more about how the opponent’s defensive line will attack him and his weaknesses, learning more about how each defense plays and improving his hands.
  • “Winning matters here,” Miller did. “I want to win, I want to win for the guy next to me.”
  • Said it is “great” seeing Xavier Thomas back on the field. Called him a “freak of nature” and a “jack of all trades.”
  • Miller said the Tigers “have a lot more depth” along the offensive line this year.
  • After the rigors of spring and fall camp, Miller said he is ready to go out and hit someone other than a teammate.
  • Miller likes the idea of talking publicly about wanting to win a national title. Said Dabo Swinney is “holding everyone to the standard it takes to stand on that podium and hold that trophy.”
  • Miller noted that the confidence level on the offensive side this season is “way higher.”
  • Miller thinks the Tigers have a couple of guys that can play left tackle. That he was open to moving to the left side if that was needed but that he prefers playing right tackle. Noted that he would rather be a “great right tackle” than a “good left tackle.”
  • Regarding the new offense, Miller said he has noticed a lot more explosive plays and he thinks the freedom and the simplicity will allow guys to “make plays and let their talent show.”
