Clemson Early Enrollees as ‘Good as Advertised’

Clemson held its first scrimmage of the spring on Wednesday, and head coach Dabo Swinney came away more than pleased with the results, including with what he saw from the early enrollees.

“Really, that whole group of mid years are as advertised,” Swinney said. “I’ve noticed every single one of those guys.”

On the offensive side, it all starts with quarterback Chris Vizzina. The poise on display by the true freshman once again caught the eye of the coaching staff, as did the three first-year offensive linemen, Zach Owens, Harris Sewell and Ian Reed.

“CV, thought he really looked poised today,” Swinney said. “Those three linemen are really going to be good players noticed all of them at one time or another.”

One of the biggest standouts on that side of the ball just might be Noble Johnson. The freshman out of Texas is the only early enrollee at wide receiver and is making the most out of some early opportunities.

“Noble is a kid that’s really, really skilled,” Swinney said. “He’s got all the ability in the world. I think we knocked it out of the park. Still got a lot to learn in putting it together, but he can really run and change directions. He’s got a great body for the position.”

The cornerstones of the last recruiting class just might be the six defensive linemen the Tigers signed. Each are highly-touted blue-chip prospects, with four of those already being on campus. Peter Woods, Vic Burley, Stephiylan Green and T.J. Parker are all showing signs of why they were so highly-rated.

The same goes for those freshmen in the back seven. Each and every one has already caught the eye of their head coach.

“Those four D-linemen in here, Burley, Stephiylan, T.J. and Peter, I mean they’re everything you want,” Swinney said. “Same thing with Jamal (Anderson) and Dee (Crayton). They absolutely really stand out. Shelton (Lewis) had a pick six today. He’s a kid that’s really stood out. Kylen Webb, Khalil Barnes.

“I mean, they’re what we thought they were. They’ve all flashed at some point. Nobody we’re disappointed with. They’re all as advertised.”
