Backing a team that’s playing poorly in recent weeks is difficult.
Backing a team that’s facing a must-win situation isn’t great either.
Florida State and Clemson both fit the former. The Tigers most certainly fit the latter.
With ACC six games to go in the regular season, Clemson sits in fourth place in the standings. The Tigers have lost three consecutive games, the longest losing skid of the season.
Fifth-place NC State lost to Syracuse on Tuesday, meaning the Tigers could gain a two-game lead for that final coveted double-bye in the ACC tournament with a win over the Seminoles at Littlejohn Coliseum.
The Tiges are a 10-point favorite today at 7 p.m.
Clemson has struggled on the defensive end as of late, allowing 169 points in the last two games against Miami and UNC.
The Tigers are 0-4 against the spread in the last four games and are 12-13 overall on the season.
FSU is also in a rough stretch. The Seminoles have lost five of their last six games, including am 82-81 nail-biter to the Tigers on Jan. 28.
Backing Clemson comes with a hope that the team rebounds and defends at a higher level. And it would help if someone other than the Big 3 of Hunter Tyson, P.J. Hall and Chase Hunter contributed more on the stat sheet.
The Tigers are the better team today, and even though they’ve fallen from first place in the ACC. They’ve got to play with an urgency at home, where Clemson is 12-1 on the season.
