Clemson dropped just its second game of the season, as the No. 16 Tigers fell on the road to Miami 95-82 on Wednesday night.
The Tigers led 41-35 going into halftime, but the Hurricanes would storm back, shooting a sizzling 75% in the second half. The Canes would take the lead for good at 51-50 on a 3-point basket by Nijel Pack with 12:28 remaining in the contest, and never really look back. Pack led all scorers with 25.
Matthew Cleveland and Norchad Moier both finished 23 points, with Kyshawn George and Bensley Joseph each adding 12, giving the Canes five different players that reached the double-digit mark in scoring.
A PJ Hall bucket with 6:24 left pulled the Tigers to within four at 70-66, but they would never get any closer, with Miami quickly going on an 8-0 run, pushing the lead back to eight at 77-66.
Hall did what he does for Clemson, finishing with 17 points and six rebounds. He would foul out with just over two minutes left.
Joe Girard led all Tigers with 18, shooting 4-of-10 from beyond the arc. Chase Hunter added 16, but was just 1-of-5 from deep.
Perimeter shooting was an issue for much of the night, as the Tigers shot just 33% from beyond the arc. The Canes were much better from long range, hitting on 46%.
The loss drops Clemson to 11-2 on the season and 1-1 in ACC play. The Tigers return home this Saturday for a key ACC matchup against North Carolina. Miami moves to 11-2 and 2-0 in league play.
