The Clemson Tigers are down two offensive starters, including a late-week surprise, for their huge ACC showdown with No. 4 Florida State.
Sophomore receiver Antonio Williams will not play against the Seminoles because of an ankle injury. Along with starting right guard Walker Parks, Williams was listed as “not expected to be available” on Clemson’s official pregame personnel update today.
All Clemson Tigers reported in the Inside the Valley feature on Friday that Williams was questionable. He left last week’s game against FAU with an injury in the first half but did return. However, he couldn’t get healthy enough this week to play.
Williams is first on the team in receptions (15), second in receiving yards (145) and tied for the most touchdown catches (2).
It’s a big loss for an offense that will have to pass the ball well against Florida State if the Seminoles load up the box and take away the run.
Clemson will have to rely heavily on true freshman Tyler Boyd, he’s been a huge surprise for the offense. He caught two touchdown passes last week and has seven catches for 79 yards on the season.
The Tigers’ offensive line will be without a key cog as well. It was confirmed Friday night that Parks is out with a lower-body injury he suffered two weeks ago.
Mitchell Mayes will start for the second consecutive week up front in place of Parks.
Safety/nickel Andrew Mukuba was not listed on the Clemson report and could see his first action since Week 1.
FSU is dealing with their own injury issues at the offensive line. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, starting left tackle Robert Scott Jr. will miss the game, as will safety Akeem Dent. Starting center Maurice Smith is back after missing the last two games.
