CLEMSON—Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was asked at the conclusion of the Tigers spring game if he could sum up where his offense was at the end of the spring practice season, and instead of giving a glowing summation, he chose a word that could have fans concerned.
"Incomplete," Swinney said.
He added that the Tigers are in a much better place than they were a year ago, but the injury bug--along with some missing pieces--has Swinney cautiously optimistic where this offense can be at the end of the season--if everyone can stay healthy.
"I think we're more confident than we were this time last year, but we're still incomplete. I thought we threw and caught pretty good today, for the most part," Swinney added. "No Cole Turner, we didn't have Tyler Brown out there, we didn't have [Troy] Stellato, we've got T.J. Moore coming this summer — we didn't have Noble Johnson out there. When we become a complete group, we've got a chance, I think, to be really good. And they should, there's a lot of guys back. We lost Putnam, and we lost Shipley. So most everybody's back for this offense. Year 2 in the system, we've got a chance to be much more confident of a group. And our quarterback taking another step is going to be a big part of that."
