Clemson has missed on one of its top offensive line targets, as 4-star William Satterwhite announced a commitment to Tennessee on Friday.
The Tigers had just beaten out the Volunteers for OL Ronan O’ Connell earlier this week, but Clemson came out on the losing side this time.
Satterwhite (Archbishop Hoban, Akron Oh), a Top-200 talent, picked up his offer from the Tigers after an unofficial visit back in the spring. It total, he had more than 30 offers.
“This one is most definitely different,” Satterwhite said of the offer. “They’ve offered only like 50 guys in my class. To be in that select club and got it directly from coach Swinney, that was really cool.”
The 6-foot-3, 300-pound prospect would then return to Clemson for an official visit the first weekend in June and for a while it appeared that the Tigers were in prime position to land the blue-chip talent.
“At the top for me, top two,” Satterwhite would say about where Clemson stood after the visit.
Satterwhite then took an official to Tennessee towards the end of June, and the momentum then shifted, culminating in today’s announcement.
With Satterwhite’s commitment to Tennessee, that leaves Clemson still looking to add two more offensive linemen to the 2024 class. Fletcher Westphal is set to announce on Monday, and the 4-star player out of Virginia is the next uncommitted target set to come off the board.
