CLEMSON- Just days after picking up an offer from Clemson, London Merritt was taking part in Dabo Swinney's high school camp.
The 4-star prospect, out of Woodward (Atlanta, Ga), is listed as an ATH by some of the services, but Clemson is recruiting him as an edge rusher. He worked out in front of defensive ends coach Lemanski Hall on Friday afternoon, and every onlooker came away more than impressed.
"I really enjoyed working out with Coach Ski, letting him see my versatility and work ethic," Merritt told All Clemson Tigers. "I also enjoyed talking with Coach Swinney for a second. What separates them is that they make me feel like family."
Merritt, who is already approaching 40 offers in total, goes to the same high school as incoming freshman DE AJ Hoffler, meaning he already knows a little bit of exactly what Clemson has to offer.
"He’s just being open and honest about their program," Merritt said. "I’m just watching how they treat him."
Being one of the opening offers for the 2025 class means something to Merritt, especially knowing how few offers the Tigers hand out each recruiting cycle.
"It means a lot, makes me feel special," Merritt said. "I’m honored to have earned an offer from them and it makes me want to work harder so I don’t disappoint them."
However, one of the biggest things to attract Merritt to Clemson is the program's track record for putting defensive linemen into the NFL.
"It’s very enticing, that’s one of main reasons I would consider going there," Merritt said. "To get developed and ready to play at the next level."
Rivals ranks the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Merritt as the fourth best strongside defensive end in the 2025 recruiting class and No. 47 overall. He still has summer visits lined up with LSU, Ohio State and Alabama.
Currently, Merritt has no firm timeline regarding a decision but said he would probably make one sometime after his junior season. And after being listed with nine sacks as a sophomore, a big junior campaign might be on tap.
For now, though, he is just looking to keep building relationships and enjoy the process.
"I want to have built great relationships with the staff," Merritt said. "The development for their players to the next level. Also having a great education."
