Clemson Softball Selected as a Host Site

The Clemson Tigers are in the NCAA Softball Tournament and will host a regional round of the tournament as the No. 16 national seed.

Joining the Tigers in the Clemson Regional are Cal St. Fullerton, UNC-Greensboro and Auburn. The Tigers of Auburn are the No. 2 seed, while Cal State Fullerton is the No. 3 seed and UNC-Greensboro is the No. 4 seed. This marks the second straight year Clemson has hosted a regional in the NCAA Softball Tournament.

It’s the Tigers third straight tournament overall. Last year, they advanced to Super Regional round where they lost to Oklahoma State. In 2021, Clemson lost to Alabama in the Tuscaloosa Regional Finals.

I am real proud of our team to be able to host our second regional in only our fourth year of existence,” Clemson head coach John Rittman said after the announcement. “That is pretty special. Our team has worked extremely hard to get to this moment and now that work starts.”

The Tigers (46-9) will host UNC-Greensboro (37-20) at 3 p.m. Friday in Game 1. The game will be televised on ESPN U.

The winner of Game 1 will play the winner of Auburn (40-17) and Cal State Fullerton (33-19) in the winner’s bracket game on Saturday. All games will be held at McWhorter Stadium in Clemson.

“We have a very challenging regional here,” Rittman said. “We are looking forward to hosting this Friday. We hope the fans can come out and support us. It should be a great atmosphere and a great time.”

The winner of the Clemson Regional will advance to a best-of-three NCAA Super Regional against the winner of the Norman Regional between May 25-28. The Women’s College World Series will be played in Oklahoma City, Okla., June 1-9.

The Tigers are coming off the ACC Tournament, where they advanced to the semifinals for the third time in three years. Clemson was one of six ACC schools selected to the NCAA Tournament, joining No. 3 Florida State, No. 8 Duke, Louisville, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech.
