If the Clemson Tigers want to win the ACC Championship and earn a College Football Playoff spot in 2024, here are the main keys to their success on offense.
Championship teams all have at least one thing in common: a dominant offensive line. One example of this is Michigan's offensive line, which was vital to their National Championship victory in 2023. The Wolverines offensive line won the Joe Moore Award in 2021 and 2022, which is awarded to the "most outstanding offensive line unit in college football," according to the Joe Moore Award website.
In 2023, the Washington Huskies won the award, and it is no coincidence that they appeared in the National Championship game against the Wolverines.
The Clemson Tigers offensive line struggled last year, which impacted the rest of the team. However, the Tigers revamped their offensive line heading into 2024.
In December, Clemson hired notable offensive line coach Matt Luke. Luke has coached college football for more than 20 years. Most notably, he was Ole Miss’s offensive line coach from 2012 to 2019, and he was elevated to interim head coach in the 2017 season when Hugh Freeze was fired. During his tenure at Ole Miss, his offensive line propelled their offense and set program records for scoring, touchdowns, total offense, passing yards, and passing touchdowns.
The second key to success for the Tigers on offense heading into next season will be the need for playmakers in the passing game.
In 2023, Clemson did not have any receiver eclipse more than 550 yards receiving. The Tigers will need to find some explosiveness in the passing game next season if they want to be a threat to top defenses.
Luckily, it appears Clemson has found those playmakers and has three dangerous options in the passing game.
One playmaker for the Tigers will be Antonio Williams. Williams was limited to four games last season due to various injuries but showed his potential. In those four games, Williams had 22 receptions for 224 yards and two touchdowns. Averaging five and a half receptions per game and over 10 yards per catch, it is clear that Williams is a threat with the ball in his hands.
Another option will be Tyler Brown. In 2023, Tyler Brown was named an ESPN Freshman All-American and a Midseason Freshman All-American by The Athletic and 247Sports. Brown finished the 2023 season with 52 receptions for 531 yards and four touchdowns. He also displayed his ability to run the ball with two rush attempts for 41 yards.
One more option is T.J. Moore. T.J. Moore is a five-star recruit according to 247Sports. Standing at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, Moore looks ready to immediately contribute on the field for the Tigers in 2024. He is a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses, and he has exceptional hands and is a major big-play threat with a quick burst off the line of scrimmage.
By focusing on these key areas, Clemson can rise to the top and reclaim their status as one of college football's elite teams.
