Clemson Tigers’ Bryant Wesco Jr. Talks Breakout Performance, ACC Debut, and Why He Chose Clemson (Football)

Clemson Tigers wide receiver Bryant Wesco Jr. spoke to the media about his breakout performance against Appalachian State, what led him to commit to Clemson as a four-star recruit, and his focus heading into his first ACC game.

Wesco didn’t take long to make an impact for the Tigers. In just his second career game as a true freshman, he recorded three catches for 130 yards and a touchdown against Appalachian State.

His touchdown was not only the first of the season for Clemson but also came in the first home game of the season at Death Valley.

Looking back on the play, Wesco joked that he "blacked out" in the moment and doesn’t remember much of what happened after he scored.

Watching the footage later, he said, was amazing, adding that he couldn't believe how loud the stadium was.

Before donning a Clemson uniform, Wesco played high school football. He told the media he didn’t realize his potential to be a top recruit until his junior year.

Once he recognized his talent, he began playing with much more confidence. He said the shift came when he started playing to his own standard, which made him feel unstoppable.

As a top recruit, Wesco received offers from across the country but ultimately chose Clemson.

He said the decision was easy because the coaching staff made it clear they were more concerned with him as a person than as a football player.

Now, two games into his college career, Wesco is preparing for his first ACC matchup, set for this weekend against NC State.

Reflecting on the first two games of the season, Wesco noted that the team was unfocused against Georgia, working on too many things at once, which limited their performance.

However, heading into the Appalachian State game, Wesco said the team approached practice with a different level of intensity.

That focus paid off for the entire team, especially for Wesco.

Against Appalachian State, he said, the team was more focused on details and executing their game plan.

The "edge" they developed before that game seems to have carried over, according to Wesco.

He emphasized that the Appalachian State win shouldn't have boosted the team’s confidence; they simply did what was expected.

Looking ahead to NC State, Wesco said he’s focused on exploiting the weaknesses in their defense and taking advantage of what they give him.

He also gave credit to two older players in the receiving corps, Antonio Williams and Adam Randall.

Wesco said he constantly asks them questions and is inspired by how they play. He added that no one works harder than Randall in practice, and he's tried to model parts of his game after Williams.
