GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Clemson’s Valerie Cagle and Louisville’s Korbe Otis have earned Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Co-Player of the Week honors and Florida State’s Kathryn Sandercock was named the ACC Softball Pitcher of the Week. This is Cagle’s fourth award, Otis’ second and Sandercock’s first of the season.
The ACC softball weekly awards are voted on by a panel from both the schools and the conference office.
Cagle led No. 5 Clemson to a series sweep of Georgia Tech, posting a .571 batting average, three home runs, five RBI and four runs scored. The Yorktown, Virginia, native recorded a 1.857 slugging percentage and a .727 on-base percentage. She hit a home run in each game against Georgia Tech as well as recording 10 putouts and three assists. In the circle, Cagle totaled 13 strikeouts and posted her fifth shutout of the season in her 11th career complete game. She earned two wins with a 0.78 ERA.
Otis batted .500 with two triples, eight runs and six RBI to lift the Cardinals to a 4-0 week and extend their winning streak to seven games, including their seventh-straight conference win and a three-game sweep of NC State. The sophomore leadoff hitter recorded a .545 on-base percentage along with a .750 slugging percentage, tallying a RBI in three of the Cardinals’ four games. The Littleton, Colorado, native tied a school record and posted a career high with four home runs in the 13-0 series-clinching win over the Wolfpack on Saturday. Otis hit the game-winner in Sunday’s series finale to give Louisville the 3-2 win.
Sandercock pushed No. 6 Florida State to a series win over No. 15 Duke, finishing 2-0 on the weekend against the Blue Devils. Her second and third wins over a top 25 opponent gave her the most in the ACC. The McLean, Virginia, native pitched 10 innings, struck out seven batters, lowered her ERA to 1.24 and holds a 0.37 ERA in league play. Sandercock allowed only four hits and one earned run, holding the Blue Devils to a season-low in hits.
