GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Clemson’s Valerie Cagle and Duke’s Claire Davidson earned Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Co-Player of the Week honors while Cagle took home the ACC Softball Pitcher of the Week award.
Cagle helped boost No. 5 Clemson to an undefeated 5-0 weekend, including a 4-0 showing in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, recording a team-high nine hits that featured four home runs and a double, adding nine RBI and scoring seven runs. The Yorktown, Virginia, native owned a .529 batting average to accompany a 1.294 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage. In Clemson’s 3-2 win over No. 14/11 Northwestern, Cagle scored two runs, posted three hits, five RBI and a home run on top of earning the win in the circle with seven strikeouts. She finished the weekend going 4-for-4 against Ohio State while , tallying another home run, two RBI and another two runs.
In four appearances in the circle, Cagle picked up three wins over the weekend against the Wildcats and Buckeyes and added a save in Clemson’s second matchup with Northwestern. Overall, she recorded 23 strikeouts in 16.1 innings. In the Tigers’ 15-2 run-rule victory over the Wildcats, Cagle only allowed two hits while striking out seven batters. She pitched a complete game against Ohio State, adding another seven strikeouts.
