It appears the 2023 NFL Draft might be a good one for some former Clemson players, if ESPN’s Matt Miller is close to being accurate.
In his Mock Draft Monday on ESPN Plus, Miller ran through every pick, while selecting six former Tigers to come off the board when the draft gets started Thursday night in Kansas City. However, he selected just one Tiger to come off the board in the first round – defensive end Myles Murphy.
He has defensive tackle Bryan Bresee coming off in the second round, as well as linebacker Trenton Simpson. Tight end Davis Allen, defensive end K.J. Henry and offensive tackle Jordan McFadden are also listed as drafted players in Miller’s Mock Draft.
Below are where the six Tigers fell in Miller’s Draft and what he wrote about Murphy, Bresee and Simpson.
Myles Murphy, DE, No. 20, First Round, Seattle
“Could give Seattle’s defense the juice it needs off the end. In a base 3-4 scheme, Murphy’s ability in space would be a welcome addition, but it’s his long-arm pass-rush move and power in the game that would be the most immediate boost to the team.”
Bryan Bresee, DT, No. 38, Second Round, Raiders
“Bresee started the 2022 season as a first-round prospect on my board, but he couldn’t match his earlier career tape as he made his way back from injury. The Raiders, however, can afford to take a chance on his upside and bet on a healthy Bresee returning to form. At 6-foot-6 and 298 pounds, he has positional versatility and could slide from a 5-technique to a 3-technique.”
Trenton Simpson, LB, No. 44, Second Round, Falcons
“Adding speed on defense is the theme of this Atlanta draft… and Simpson picked to be a playmaker at weakside linebacker. Simpson, who ran a 4.43 at the combine, has the rare speed and short-area quickness to be a factor in a pass-coverage and run-defending role.”
Davis Allen, TE, No. 109, Fourth Round, Raiders
K.J. Henry, DE, No. 138, Fifth Round, Colts
Jordan McFadden, OT, No. 188, Sixth Round, Texans
