The Clemson Tigers have added another piece to its 2024 recruiting class, picking up a commitment from heralded 4-star safety Ricardo Jones.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect, out of Northside (Warner Robins, Ga.) had more than 30 offers in total and chose the Tigers over finalists Tennessee, Auburn and Florida State. Although, at the end of the day, this was a battle that came down to Clemson and Florida State.
Jones had a little fun during the announcement, picking up a Tennessee hat off the table and unveiling a Volunteers shirt he was wearing under his hoodie. It was all a tease, though, as he quickly scrapped both, grabbing a Clemson hat off the table and revealing yet another shirt he was wearing, this one of the Clemson variety as well. He could be heard proclaiming, “We are about to shock the world” after the announcement.
After picking up an offer back in March, Jones was one of 20 uncommitted prospects to take an official visit to Clemson the first weekend in June. He was also set to visit Florida State last weekend, but would ultimately cancel the trip.
Jones ranks No. 125 overall in the 247 Composite Rankings and No. 10 among all safeties. He is also one of the better players to come out of the state of Georgia in this recruiting cycle.
Jones is the fifth 2024 player to commit this month and the second safety to announce a commitment to Clemson in this class, joining Noah Dixon, who announced earlier in the spring. His addition now gives the Tigers a total of 13 commitments in the 2024 class, that now ranks No. 10 in the nation per Rivals.
