Lawrence Named to Pro Bowl Roster

Former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence was named to the NFL Pro Bowl on Tuesday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback will replace Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes on the AFC’s roster, due to the fact Mahomes will be playing in the Super Bowl on Feb. 12. The Pro Bowl will be played this weekend in Las Vegas.

Lawrence becomes just the second former Clemson quarterback to make a Pro Bowl roster. Deshaun Watson earned three consecutive Pro Bowl spots from the 2018-’20 seasons when he was the quarterback of the Houston Texans.

As for Lawrence, he completed 387-of-584 passes for 4,113 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while leading the Jaguars to an AFC South Division title this season. He was 52-of-86 for 505 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions in two games this postseason, which included a 27-point come-from-behind victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card Round.

The 27-point comeback is the third largest in NFL Playoff history.

Lawrence, of course, led the Tigers to a pair of College Football Playoff Championship appearances during his three-year career at Clemson, including winning the 2018 National Championship. The Tigers went 15-0 that season, the first team in major college football to accomplish that feat in the modern era. Lawrence was the first freshman quarterback to lead his team to a national championship since 1985.

Lawrence was a Heisman Trophy Finalist in 2020 and earned ACC Player of the Year honors, as well. He was picked No. 1 overall by Jacksonville in the 2021 NFL Draft, the first Clemson player to earn such an honor.
