Dabo Swinney (Jason Priester All Clemson)

Clemson held its second scrimmage of the spring on Wednesday and afterwards, head coach Dabo Swinney called it the best group effort he has seen from his team since the spring began.

“Probably, honestly, our best as a team all spring,” Swinney said. “Just really competitive, not a lot of… just crap. You know, procedure stuff, jumping offside, had ACC refs out here today. It was a very clean scrimmage. And again very competitive on both sides and really a good way to kind of go into this Easter break this weekend.”

Swinney also updated the progress on some of the injuries his team has been dealing with this spring, noting that a lot of players are getting really close, including offensive lineman Marcus Tate, who is back participating in everything outside of taking live reps.

“We got a few guys that have kind of gotten back into practice that we’re not gonna let play but they’ve been able to get out there and really, really get some get some really high speed reps. Like Beaux Collins, for example. He’s really been able to do a lot of things practice wise, but not quite ready to go scrimmage and Adam Randle’s close, he looks great. He’s right there. Sheridan (Jones) and JP (Jalyn Phillips) man really, really pleased with their progress. Again, these are all postseason type things that if we started spring next week, those guys would have a chance to go through spring.”

“Marcus (Tate) is back. He’s another guy, he’s like Beaux. He’s back at practice. He’s back doing all the individual, all our team stuff, separate stuff. But again, another another couple of weeks he’s probably going through spring. So he’s really kind of doing everything but we’re not not letting him do any live work. So he’s in a good spot, as his Walker (Parks).

The Tigers will now take a break for the Easter holiday before wrapping up with the Orange and White spring game on April 15. Nick Eason and C.J. Spiller will be the head coaches for the annual scrimmage and Swinney implored the fans to show up and show out.

“Hopefully by the time we get to the game next week, we’ll have pretty much as many guys as we’ve had out in awhile out this spring, they can come out here and put on a show for the fans. I’d love to see us fill this thing up. It’s a big day. We moved it. Obviously, it could have been this weekend but we moved it for Easter and we need it. We need a great a great crowd here. And we need some energy and some excitement. We’re gonna have a ton of recruits coming in so hopefully Tiger Nation… it’s free, will show up and let’s have a great day in the Valley.”

Quote of the week

“People ask me what I do in the winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
