Clemson is currently looking to add at least one more receiver to the 2025 recruiting class, and Tyler Williams might just be one of the names to know as we get into the summer months.
The 3-star wideout, out of Sumner (Fl) visited for the Tigers most recent Junior Day on March 9, and Williams took full advantage of his first trip to the Upstate of South Carolina.
Williams, along with his mother and step-father got into Greenville on the Friday before, and stayed through Sunday. On top of the actual visit, the family wanted to also try and familiarize themselves with the surrounding area.
"I stayed in Greenville and everybody was really nice in the city, and I liked the city," Williams told ACT. "We went to the mall, and we explored a little bit. The actual visit there, it was really cool. I just like how they run things and their facilities. Everything is really nice."
As for the football part, that resonated too, as all three came away impressed by their first visit to Clemson.
"They liked it too," he said of his family's reaction to the visit. "They were just taking it all in. But we all.... we definitely liked it."
While on campus, Williams got to take in one of the half scrimmages, and he liked what he saw from Garrett Riley's offense.
"I liked it," Williams said. "I liked the way the receivers went through practice, when they were doing their indie drills.
They didn't always go 100%, but they just slow things down and work on the technique. And then when they actually were running through plays and stuff, I liked what they were doing. They throw the ball deep and give people chances. They throw little screen passes, they just mix it up."
So far, the Tigers have offered less than five receivers in the 2025 class. While Williams holds more than 30 offers in total, he is not among the handful of wideouts Clemson has already offered. Although, that might very well change over the next few weeks, as the visit box has now been checked.
"Their recruitment process is different but I feel kind of like it's a blessing," Williams said. "Some people look at it like 'oh man, you know, they taking to long,' and stuff like that. I look at like, if they offer you, it really means something."
Despite not having an offer just yet, Williams has been on Tyler Grisham's radar for quite some time, and communication has really started to pick up of late.
"I first heard from him as soon as I was able to start texting coaches, I think right after my sophomore season," Williams said.
"So he's been in contact ever since then. But that contact has definitely picked up, and he tells me that I'm a real good player. A baller. Stuff like that. And that means a lot."
And if that offer does come, it would put the Tigers squarely in the mix.
"It would mean a lot," Williams said. "It would mean, in their eyes, I am one of the best of the best. That would definitely be taken into consideration and they would definitely be up there in my top schools."
Alabama, Georgia and Syracuse are also set to get spring visits, and Williams is hoping to get back to Clemson at some point in the future. The possibility of an official has already been discussed, but at this point, nothing is set in stone.
As he continues to navigate the recruiting process, Williams has been looking for some specific qualities in a school.
"A good environment, a good team culture and coaches." Williams said. "People who can develop me and get me there, but at the same time, living in a nice city. One that I can live in outside of football."
And when asked if Greenville fit the bill as far as living in a nice city, Williams did not hesitate.
"Oh, yeah, I definitely enjoyed it there."
