Things are a little bit different this year for former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson.
The Cleveland Browns signal caller is now settled in with his new team, a year after uncertainty with a pending suspension for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy due to civil cases accusing him of sexual misconduct during massage sessions.
That’s all in the past now, as Watson joined his Cleveland team Tuesday for the first day of off-season workouts.
“It’s night and day,” Watson said in a Pro Football Talk story.
Watson was suspended for the first 11 games of 2022, missing nearly two years of play after sitting out the 2021 season in Houston. He started the last six games for Cleveland, going 3-3 with 1,102 passing yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions.
“Last year, it was just a whirlwind, but it was a good learning lesson for myself and for me to be able to grow,” said Watson, who has settled 23 of the 25 lawsuits against him. “Coming in this year, I’m ahead of the game from where I was previously.”
Watson’s only worry now is just playing football.
“Last year, I had only been to Cleveland twice — when I came on a pre-visit and when we played,” he said. “Outside of that, it was my first time up here with everything going on. All of that is in the past, like I said before, and I’m looking to move forward with my life and my career, just being able to really plant myself in this community, this city and also in this organization for a very long time.
