With the Dabo Swinney high school camps set to start next week and the big official weekend coming up the first weekend in June, things could be about to pick up for Clemson on the recruiting trail.

The Tigers currently have eight players committed in the 2024 class and if last June is any indication, that number could grow exponentially before July rolls around.

The coaching staff has spent the past few weeks making stops across the country to check in on numerous prospects and will now return home to do more evaluating at next weeks camps.

Several unofficial visits have taken place in recent weeks, with one of the more notable ones being from 2024 4-star DE Dominic Nichols (Oakdale, Ijamsville, Md) last weekend. It has been expected that the board would expand at end and now it has, as Nichols announced an offer on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound prospect is quickly approaching the 40-offer mark. Nichols has officials set for Wisconsin that first weekend in June, then will go to Michigan and Kentucky the following weekends. With the Tigers only hosting officials that one weekend, it will interesting to see if the schedule gets rearranged. The offer doesn’t go out unless the staff feels like they have a realistic shot. As of now, 5-star Eddrick Houston (Buford, Ga) and 4-star Darien Mayo (Good Counsel, Olney, Md) are the only two defensive ends are set to be on hand that weekend.

2024 OL target Ronan ‘O Connell (Fred J. Page, Franklin, Tn) trimmed his list to three on Tuesday, with Clemson, Tennessee and Wisconsin all making the cut. O’Connell just picked up his offer from Clemson last month after an unofficial visit and will be back for the official visit weekend. He is one of those guys that plays things close to the vest, so it’s hard to get a good read on where things stand, but from everything I can gather, the Vols are the biggest competition.

The Tigers are still searching for the next quarterback target in the 2024 class. 3-star Ethan Grunkemeyer (Olentangy, Lewis Center, Oh) was on the radar after Garrett Riley went and watched him throw a couple of weeks back, but he committed to Penn State over the weekend.

Who gets that next offer is still up in the air. 3-star Kamari McClellan (Clay-Chalkville, Al) told All Clemson Tigers that he would be working out for the staff on the first day of camp next week. He has camped at Clemson each of the past two years. Maybe he comes in and impresses enough to earn an offer. If not, maybe another QB impresses enough to walk away with one.

Quote of the week

“People ask me what I do in the winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
