As the season draws closer, let's take a look at the top quarterbacks in the country heading into the 2024 season, ranking the top quarterbacks in each major conference.
ACC
- Cam Ward (Miami Hurricanes)
As one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 transfer portal, Cam Ward looks to lead Miami to the ACC crown this season. At Washington State, Ward proved to be one of the most versatile quarterbacks in the country. With one of the strongest arms in the country, look for the Hurricanes' offense to be a big-play team with Ward under center.
- Grayson McCall (NC State Wolfpack)
After a very impressive career with Coastal Carolina, McCall transferred to NC State in the offseason and looks to make an immediate impact. At Coastal, McCall completed 710 of 1,016 passes (70%) for 10,005 yards with 88 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, while also rushing 350 times for 1,113 yards and 18 scores. He was also a three-time Sun Belt Player of the Year.
Big Ten
- Dillon Gabriel (Oregon Ducks)
Widely considered the top quarterback in the transfer portal this past offseason, the entire country knows what Dillon Gabriel is capable of. He has all the tools necessary to be a Heisman contender this season. Under Oregon's offense, which has proved to be very successful under head coach Dan Lanning, expect Gabriel to have similar success to Bo Nix last year.
- Drew Allar (Penn State Nittany Lions)
Coming off his first season as the starter for Penn State, expect Allar to make a significant jump this season. As a former five-star recruit, he has a lot of eyes on him, but he has all the tools necessary to prove that he is one of the best quarterbacks in the country this season.
SEC
- Carson Beck (Georgia Bulldogs)
With 24 touchdown passes and a completion rate of 72.4%, Beck nearly eclipsed 4,000 yards through the air and is one of the best passers in the country. Beck saved his top performances last season for the team's most difficult games, including impressive games against Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Missouri.
- Quinn Ewers (Texas Longhorns)
Ewers could very well be the first quarterback selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. Many believed that he would declare for the draft last season after leading his team to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff. With Arch Manning right behind him on the depth chart, Ewers has excelled as the starting quarterback for the Longhorns and is a legitimate Heisman contender.
Honorable Mention: Brady Cook (Missouri Tigers) and Jalen Milroe (Alabama Crimson Tide)
Big 12
- Shedeur Sanders (Colorado Buffaloes)
Colorado has been heavily criticized for the talent they lost in the offseason to the transfer portal. However, the Buffaloes revamped their offensive line in the offseason, and Sanders had a terrific season in 2023. Even with the deficiencies across the Buffaloes' roster, Sanders finished his debut FBS season as the nation's No. 10 passer and boasted a sparkling 27-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
- Cam Rising (Utah Utes)
Rising was out the entire 2023 season with a knee injury; however, when he is healthy, Utah has been nearly unbeatable. He led the Utes to back-to-back Pac-12 championships and Rose Bowl appearances in 2021-22 before he was hurt. Rising completed 15 of 19 passes for 208 yards with two scores in the spring game. The Utes also have one of the deepest wide receiver rooms in the country.
