College football is just around the corner, and the Clemson Tigers will open their season on Aug. 31 against the Georgia Bulldogs. Here is a game-by-game prediction for Clemson through the first six games of the season. Part two, where we predict the second half of Clemson's schedule, will be released tomorrow morning, Aug. 20.
#14 Clemson Tigers vs. #1 Georgia Bulldogs (Mercedes-Benz Stadium)
The Bulldogs have won the National Championship in two of the last three seasons and narrowly missed the playoffs last season.
Georgia lost a lot of offensive talent to the NFL Draft this past season; however, Georgia remains the most talented team on paper in the entire country.
If Clemson can force early pressure on QB Carson Beck, then the Tigers have a chance, but ultimately, Georgia will come away with a victory.
Record: 0-1
App State Mountaineers @ #14 Clemson Tigers
App State is one of the top teams outside of the Power Four Conferences; however, it will be tough for the Mountaineers to come away with a victory in Death Valley.
Clemson's defense will make it a long day for the App State offense, and this will be the first explosive weekend of many for Clemson's offense in 2024.
Record: 1-1
#24 NC State Wolfpack @ #14 Clemson Tigers
The Wolfpack haven’t won in Death Valley since 2003, and Doeren is 0-4 at Clemson. Still, NC State did beat Clemson last season, which sparked a five-game win streak for the Tigers after the loss to their rival.
The Wolfpack will be looking to make the ACC Championship game for the first time in program history, and if they are going to do it, they will need to upset their rival for the second season in a row.
It will be a tight game, but Clemson has the better defense, and ultimately, I believe this will lead to the Tigers' second win of the season.
Record: 2-1
Stanford Cardinal @ #14 Clemson Tigers
ACC newcomer Stanford will make their first trip to Death Valley on Sept. 28. Coming off a 3-9 season in 2023, the Cardinal have struggled in recent years and will likely have a tough time against Clemson. The Tigers are expected to win dominantly.
Record: 3-1
#14 Clemson Tigers @ #10 Florida State Seminoles
Clemson vs. Florida State will be the game of the year in the ACC. Florida State is the favorite to win the conference in 2024; however, Clemson is right behind them and wanting revenge after their loss at home last season.
Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei will also be looking to make a statement against his former team when the game kicks off.
Florida State lost 10 starters to the 2024 NFL Draft. With the loss of that much talent, I think the Seminoles will struggle against an experienced Clemson team, and the Tigers will come away with the upset of the season.
Record: 4-1
#14 Clemson Tigers @ Wake Forest Demon Deacons
On Oct. 12, to close out the first half of the season, Clemson will travel to Winston-Salem to battle Wake Forest. After a 4-8 season and losing their last five games of 2023, Wake Forest is not expected to pose a threat to Clemson. The Tigers are predicted to secure another dominant win.
Record: 5-1
