Stone Saunders has thrown for more than 6,500 yards in his high school career. What makes that so impressive is the fact that he is just a rising junior.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound 4-star quarterback, out of Bishop McDevitt in Harrisburg, Pa., is already considered one of the top players at his position in the 2025 class, and one of the best in his state.
Saunders is already approaching the two dozen offer mark, with Texas A&M, Michigan, Louisville and Colorado being some of the schools to have already pulled the trigger. He's already had a busy spring, including an unofficial visit to Clemson last weekend. The time he got to spend with some of the coaches, including new offensive coordinator Garrett Riley, is what stood out the most.
"Spending time with the coaches," Saunders told All Clemson Tigers. "Spent a lot of time with coach Riley and coach Grisham and of course coach Swinney. Great people and teachers in a special place."
With the Tigers in the process of installing a new offense under Riley, Saunders is anxiously awaiting to see what the finished product looks like in the fall.
"It’s really exciting what he’s doing with the offense," Saunders said. "I can’t wait to see the finished system on the field this fall."
Saunders said he expects the coaching staff to visit his school in May and then he plans to return to Clemson in the summer to work out at Dabo Swinney's high school camp. He also plans to visit for the big home matchup with Florida State next season.
While the Tigers have yet to start handing out offers to players in the 2025 class, and won't until June, Saunders knows how selective the coaches at Clemson are. They routinely hand out far fewer offers than most every other school in the country.
However, Saunders noted that he doesn't put much focus on the actual offer. It's more about how he is recruited and the relationships he builds in the process.
"I try not to put too much into the offer," Saunders said. "They have their system and I have a lot of respect for it. I’m looking to keep building on the relationship on both sides and enjoying the process."
While there is certainly no rush, Saunders is hoping to have his recruitment wrapped up by the end of the year.
"Maybe this summer or fall," he said. "I want to help my future school recruit and that’s always been important to me. Personally there’s no rush, it depends on a few factors."
Although, he does already know what it is he is looking for in a school, and Clemson seems to check all the boxes.
"I want to be with a good teacher and coach because I want to keep developing as a quarterback and person," Saunders said. "And I want to be in a place that loves football."
