Clemson true freshman linebacker Sammy Brown discussed his decision to wear No. 47 during a recent episode of the "2 Right Turns" podcast, attributing his choice to the legacy of former Tigers linebacker James Skalski.
“Honestly, there’s not that good of a story [about choosing No. 47] besides the fact that it’s freakin’ James Skalski, and you can’t go wrong being 47,” said Brown, who enrolled at Clemson in January.
Brown noted that his options for jersey numbers were limited, but he felt an immediate connection to 47 when he saw it. “But I didn’t have a wide arrange of numbers that I could choose from. But when I saw 47, I felt like I had to take it.”
Understanding the significance of the number, Brown expressed his determination to uphold the high standards set by Skalski. “I think it’s definitely like you have to live up to that standard – like, the standard of 47 is what James Skalski put out on the field,” Brown said. “So I feel like when I wear that number, I have to live up to that standard.”
Brown’s comments highlight his respect for Skalski’s impact at Clemson and his own commitment to continuing that legacy as he begins his collegiate career.
