Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney Ready for Matchup With No. 4 Florida State (Football)

Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media Tuesday morning to preview the Tigers' massive game against the No. 4 Florida State Seminoles Saturday (noon, ABC).

Last Saturday, Clemson significantly reversed its fortunes in the turnover category, recording four takeaways against only one giveaway to win the turnover margin for the first time this season.

"We have no chance against Florida State if we can't win the turnover margin," Swinney said following the game. "We can't beat hardly anybody when we lose the turnover margin. That's the greatest equalizer in football."

Clemson enters Saturday having recorded at least one takeaway in 16 consecutive home games, the nation's longest active streak. The last team to exit Death Valley without at least one giveaway was Boston College on Halloween in 2020.

Here is what we heard:

  • "This is Clemson-Florida State at its best right here, for sure. This is a great football team we're getting ready to play. Every sense of the word."
  • "This is Clemson-Florida State. It doesn't matter what your record is, it doesn't matter who won last year, doesn't matter what you're ranked. This is a game that you better show up."
  • "This is a game that you better show up. You better show up and be ready."
  • "We aren't worried about the ranking stuff. We've played three ballgames. We lost our opener on the road, and they're undefeated. That's just where we are. They don't give trophies out after three games."
  • "None of that stuff (rankings) matters. Two good football teams are gonna battle it out ... Who knows who anybody is right now"
  • "We’re hopeful" that Walker Parks and Andrew Mukuba will play this week.
  • Confirms graduate kicker Jonathan Weitz has rejoined the team. "We just need a little bit of maturity there would be the right word. Haven't lose any confidence in Robert Gunn ... When you say this kid is talented, you're not doing it justice. This kid is freaky."
  • "We brought him outta the bullpen from the beach"
  • “Weitz will be starting against the Noles, wait… he’s starting today so we will see.”
  • “If we have to make a long one we will go with Gunn, we just need someone to make layups right now”
  • "It’s either going to be a great story or it’s going to be terrible. It’s not going to be anything in between."
