Coming off its open date, the Clemson Tigers enter Week 8 in the college football season as a 2.5-point favorite over the Miami Hurricanes.
Dabo Swinney and company visit South Florida for an 8 p.m. showdown on ACC Network.
Both teams are 4-2 on the season. Clemson is 2-4 against the spread this year while Miami is 3-3 versus the number.
The Hurricanes have back-to-back games to Georgia Tech and UNC, two teams still left on Clemson’s schedule.
Series history
Going back to 2009, Clemson is 5-1 overall against Miami and has covered the spread in five of those six meetings.
The Tigers have dominated the last four matchups, winning by a combined score of 178-30, including a 40-10 beatdown in 2020.
Clemson’s last trip to Miami resulted in a 58-0 drilling of the Hurricanes in 2015.
What to watch for
The total on this game is currently set at 50.5 points, so oddmakers are seeing a potential defensive struggle with the point spread so low.
Keep an eye on the spread and if it hits the key number of 3. It’s hard to think that bettors will be backing a Miami team on a losing skid, but Clemson hasn’t been trustworthy against the spread over the last couple of seasons.
This game might not illicit a ton of action for those two reasons. It’s a tough one to call, although Clemson coming off an off-week should make the Tigers more appealing.
