Clemson officially welcomed members of its 2024 recruiting class on Wednesday morning upon opening of the NCAA early signing period. The early signing period will conclude on Friday, Dec. 22 in advance of National Signing Day on Feb. 7, 2024.
"The cool thing about this day is people have to choose you ... For a young man and his family to say this is where I want to be, that's really cool."
Here is what we heard:
- "The cool thing about this day is that people have to choose you -- and that never gets old for me."
- RB David Eziomume a "home run hitter." "We were going to take one, and we feel like we got our guy."
- On WRs Bryant Wesco and TJ Moore: "Just two ballhawks...They can go up and get it. They got length, they got speed, they got change of direction. They can do a lot of things with the ball in their hands."
- On OL signings: "I think we knocked it out of the park as far as what we needed."
- "All four of the linemen are mid-years, so I'm excited about getting them here"
- "Seven returning linemen and the four signees, we're excited about the depth we'll have on the offensive line"
- TE Christian Bentancur: "He's special... big-time"
- "Darien Mayo and Adam Kissayi are both 6-7...Just absolute giants."
- They considered taking a portal LB had Barrett Carter left.
- On CJ Kubah-Taylor: "Great size and length and has gotten better every year. He played really, really well (this year.) Was really the perfect for us."
- "Everybody knows a lot about Sammy Brown...He's a dude. We all know that ... He never comes off the field, hardly"
- On Tavoy Feagin: "He is dynamic."
- On place kicker Nolan Hauser: "Best kicker in the country. He's an athlete. Comes from an athletic family. Both his parents were athletes here at Clemson. He's a mid-year and he'll be down with us at the bowl game."
- If the Tigers addressed speed at WR: "We already have it on the roster. Cole Turner played a half-game and Antonio Williams played just 3.5 games. Adam Randall is coming into his own and he can really run. Tyler Brown can fly."
- OL Trent Howard will be back for a fifth year in 2024. "That's huge for us."
- "I don't promise anybody anything" in terms of playing time. "Gonna love them, hold them accountable, graduate them ... We don't just talk that. That's who we are. If you don't go to class here, you don't play"
- "A lot of these guys are in the portal for a reason, they want to be the guy. I can’t guarantee anybody’s gonna be the guy. You get an opportunity to be the guy."
- I've had freshman start at every position .
- On if Clemson needs a portal defensive end. "I don’t see a portal situation. That was a position that we looked at."
