CHARLOTTE – Florida State is set to play Clemson on Sept. 23 at Death Valley and Jared Verse spoke with the media about the Seminoles plans for this upcoming season.
Verse was high on this year’s team and said “last year felt like a winning team, this year it feels like a dominant team.” The defensive end likes the potential of this group to have a winning season, “It’s a whole different feeling, that I don't think anyone on this team is used to.”
Verse said watching last year’s Clemson game made him upset due to the amount of mistakes the Seminoles made that ultimately led to a seventh consecutive loss to Clemson.
“Clemson’s a good team, they will capitalize on any mistakes you make, so we just can't make those same mistakes again,” he said, while speaking to the media at Wednesday’s ACC Football Kickoff from the Westin Hotel in Uptown.
“I feel like we’re not back yet but we’re on the right path. We are very close.” Verse continued in response to whether or not Florida State has returned as a team with the potential to beat Clemson. “By the end of the season we might be able to say ‘Oh yeah, Florida State’s back’ but right now we’re just taking the steps to get there.”
Does Florida State have what it takes to beat LSU as their first opponent of the season at such a high rank? Verse says “Most definitely.” According to him, it’s the development of the Seminoles as a team that is most significant, not the steps and pieces they have right now.
Only time will tell if this Florida State team will become the truly dominant team Verse thinks they are.
