Georgia Bulldogs vs. Clemson Tigers 2024: Behind Enemy Lines (Football)

The Georgia Bulldogs kick off their season this Saturday against the Clemson Tigers, a team looking to return to the top of the college football landscape.

According to the AP Poll, Georgia enters the 2024 season ranked No. 1 in the country. Typically, highly ranked teams open their seasons with a warm-up game, one they are likely to win. However, Kirby Smart and Georgia want to make a statement to the rest of the country by playing against Clemson, which is ranked No. 14 to begin the season.

Since Kirby Smart took over as head coach in 2015, the Bulldogs have quickly climbed to the top of college football.

Notably, this Georgia team has won two of the last three national championships and won an SEC-record 29 straight games before losing to Alabama in last year's SEC Championship.

Had Georgia won that SEC Championship, many believe the team would have captured yet another national title on its way to a third straight national championship.

Smart has also proved to be one of the best recruiters in college football, and his team enters the 2024 season with the most talented roster in the country.

However, this team has faced its share of drama since the end of last season.

Georgia has had 23 players get in trouble with law enforcement, including a DUI and multiple cases of reckless driving. As a result, Smart has faced a lot of criticism for a lack of control over his players.

Additionally, Georgia had eight players selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, making this year's team, which will take the field against Clemson, a little inexperienced.

Regardless, Smart will have his players ready against a Clemson team that won its last five games of last season but finished just 9-4.

Georgia will begin the season with one of the best quarterbacks in college football, Carson Beck, under center. However, the talented quarterback will be missing his top target from last season, tight end Brock Bowers, who moved on to the NFL.

Additionally, Beck will be without wide receiver Ladd McConkey and his two best offensive linemen from last season, who also moved on to the NFL.

While Georgia's defense also lost four starters, the team enters the season with one of the top defensive lines and secondaries in college football, both looking to make it a long day for Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik.
