There are few players that have had the type of freshman season that Clemson safety Khalil Barnes has had--culminating in his scoop-and-score fumble recovery and interception, in a three-play sequence, against in-state rival South Carolina.
“Coach [Dabo] Swinney emphasized kind of setting the tone of the game,” Barnes said. “God gave me the opportunity and I was able to make it happen.”
Here is more from the phenomenal freshman:
- “Their quarterback will be in the league one day. [Xavier Legett] and a lot of guys on that offense will be in the NFL. It just shows how good of a defense we have.”
- “Coach Swinney came to us that Monday meeting before Notre Dame and kind of put everybody on notice. ‘We got to show people we are Clemson again."
- "We wanted to be villains. We wanted opposing crowds to hate us.”
- “We aren’t where we want to be end of the season. We feel like we should be in the ACC Championship with a chance for the playoffs."
- "It just shows the resilience of this team, being able to stay together.”
