CHARLOTTE — The Pitt Panthers do not play Clemson during the regular season this year, but their head coach knows they have to beat the Tigers if they are going to win a second ACC Championship in three years.

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi was asked if it will be harder on former Coastal Division teams to win the ACC now that there are no more conferences.

Narduzzi does not believe that at all. In fact, he feels the way to win the ACC is the same way they won it in 2021. They have to beat Clemson.

“I think back in '21, when we went to the championship game and beat Wake Forest, you beat the reigning champion in Clemson at home. You took care of business,” he said Wednesday from the ACC Football Kickoff at the Westin Hotel in Uptown.

The Panthers beat Clemson 27-17 at Heinz Field in 2021, which basically knocked the Tigers out of the ACC Atlantic Division race, ending their six-year run of ACC Championships.

“When you are in the Atlantic or in the Coastal Division, pretty much, you have to beat Clemson to get there, correct? To me, we did that and won the championship, so to me that makes it even sweeter.”
