CLEMSON- After a tightly contested affair in the first half, Clemson pulled away from Boise State in the second, knocking off the Broncos 85-68 on Sunday inside Littlejohn Coliseum.
The win moves the Tigers to 4-0 in the young season, while the Broncos drop to 2-1.
Clemson had three players reach the double digit mark in scroing, with Joe Girard leading the attack. He notched a game-high 23 points, while hitting on 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Chase Hunter and PJ Hall each added 14 apiece.
Brad Brownell's team shot better than 50% from the field and was 8-of-14 beyond the arc. The Tigers outscore Boise 34-24 in the paint and outrebounded the Broncos by a wide margin, 40-25.
Clemson took a slim 41-38 lead into halftime, but Boise State would quickly tie it up at 41-41 less than a minute into the second frame. A short Jack Clark jumper would put Clemson right back up by two and the Tigers would lead the rest of the way, going up by as many as 20 at one point.
Player of the Game: This was Girard's day. The transfer from Syracuse led all scorers with 23 points, shooting 9-of-17 from the floor and 3-of-6 from 3-point land. He also added four rebounds and three assists.
Key Moment: With Clemson up 47-44 with 16:57 left in the game, Girard drilled a 3-point shot to push the lead to six. Girard would come right back and hit another jumper to give the Tigers a 52-44 advantage and the Broncos would never get any closer.
Stat of the Game: 11 different players saw action for Clemson, with all but two of those registering double digits in minutes played. Brownell has a lot of depth on this team and is not afraid to go deep into his bench.
Up Next: The Tigers will host Alcorn State on Friday at Littlejohn Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
