You’ve got recruiting questions and we have the answers.
Welcome to All Clemson’s recruiting mailbag, where we will answer your recruiting questions. Or we will at least attempt to do so, as recruiting is a world with many moving parts and an ever-changing landscape where circumstances can often change in a flash.
With that in mind, let’s dive in.
DijonWatsun: Any new vibes on LB Sammy Brown?
Honestly, outside of the fact that it is coming down to Clemson and Georgia, I have no idea how this one is going to play out. Oklahoma, Ohio State and Tennessee are also scheduled to get officials, but this has been a two team race for awhile. There are things that Brown absolutely loves about both programs. Both feature strong, but different types of culture, and it will eventually come down to which one Brown sees himself fitting in best.
Many have pointed to Georgia having a roster loaded with 5-star linebackers as a detriment to the Bulldogs' chances, but I'm not sure I see it that way. Clemson most definitely gives him a clearer path to the field early, but this is a kid who will not be scared off by competition. In fact, I think he sees it more as a challenge.
We won't have to wait much longer for a decision, though. Brown has been pretty consistent in saying he wants to have a decision made at some point in July after he takes all of his officials.
Mike: Is ATH Mike Matthews coming for an official visit in June?
No official word on that just yet, but I will be surprised if he is not on hand.
Robbie: Any update on the QB that Riley visited in Ohio this past week?
Offensive coordinator Garrett Riley went and watched 3-star Ethan Grunkemeyer (Olentangy, Lewis Center, Ohio) throw last week. Next up is getting him on campus. That typically has to happen before an offer is handed out. Penn State and Minnesota have been considered the leaders of the pack, and it's hard to know where Clemson stands at this point. Grunkemeyer wants to be committed soon. Very possibly before the end of the month. So any visit would have to happen in the next couple of weeks.
Brady: What is the latest on WR Cam Coleman?
This is a recruitment that will likely stretch well into the fall. Coleman (Central, Phenix City, Al) will be on hand for the big official visit weekend, and will also visit LSU in June. However, it's looking like his officials to Auburn and Florida State won't take place until after the season starts.
Clemson has had plenty of success recruiting players from his high school. Justyn Ross, EJ Williams and Ray Thornton all came out of Central. However, Auburn is probably the team to beat, and if the Tigers are going to land Coleman, they will have to knock it out of the park in June.
