Tiger Tracker: Clemson Hands Out New Offer, More Notes On Elite Junior Day (Recruiting)

Sammy Brown and Hevin Brown-Shuler

With Elite Junior Day now now upon us, Clemson handed out a new offer on Wednesday, with one going to 2024 LB Solomon Williams (Carrollwood Day, Tampa).

While Williams is listed as a linebacker by the recruiting services, the Tigers are recruiting him as a defensive end. He is a teammate of current Clemson CB commit Tavoy Feagin, and while it's not confirmed, indications point to Williams making to Clemson this weekend for Elite Junior Day.

Williams is now approaching 30 offers in total, with Ohio State, Miami, Tennessee and Michigan among the schools to have most recently offered.

The Tigers are expected to host more than 20 uncommitted 2024 targets for the annual recruiting event on Saturday. One of the more noteworthy names to keep an eye on is in-state OL Blake Franks, as this is a recruitment that appears to be nearing an end.

The product of Greenville High was in town for an unofficial visit a couple of weeks back, attending Clemson Basketball's win over Duke and visited South Carolina for their Junior Day last weekend. Franks has long been considered a Clemson lean, but the rival Gamecocks have no doubt made up some ground over the past few weeks. How much ground is hard to know, but the Tigers will get one final opportunity to make their case this weekend. While no official commitment date has been set, a decision is expected in early February.

Another notable attendee is QB Walker White (Little Rock Christian, Ark). Clemson offered back in December, and this weekend will give Clemson and new offensive coordinator Garrett Riley a shot at gaining more traction. Auburn and Arkansas are also heavily involved. White is just one of two uncommitted quarterbacks with an offer, but the only player at the position expected to attend this weekend.

Clemson's lone running back offer, David Eziomume (N. Cobb, Ga), will also be in town. The blue-chip prospect visited Georgia Tech for their Junior Day last weekend, and right now this one looks like it could be a battle between the Tigers and Yellow Jackets. However, the offers keep rolling in for Eziomume, who now holds 22 in total, with West Virginia and Wisconsin being two of the most recent.

On the defensive side, DL Hevin Brown-Shuler (Pace Academy, Atlanta) will make another trip to Clemson. Brown-Shuler visited for three different games during the season. While rival South Carolina has been seen as one of the top schools, he chose to visit Michigan last weekend instead of attending the Gamecocks' Junior Day. He also visited Georgia earlier this month. While no commitment date has been announced, the Tigers have to be considered the team to beat at this point.

ATH Mike Matthews (Parkview, Lilburn, Ga) will also be back on campus. His last visit was back in September for the win over Louisiana Tech, but he made two previous stops before the start of the season. Matthews is one of the top players in the class, with Clemson recruiting him as a safety. One of the top players in the class, He is being pursued by all the big boy schools, including Notre Dame, Tennessee and Georgia. While this is a battle that is far from over, Clemson has positioned themselves well.

All Clemson has also confirmed that LB Sammy Brown (Jefferson High, Ga) will definitely be able to make the trip, after initially not being sure due to his high school wrestling schedule. One of the Top 10 players in the class, Brown is at the top of the board. Clemson and Georgia are the primary contenders right now, with a decision expected before the start of his senior season, but not before he takes some officials in the summer.
