Tigers Tracker: 2024 Safety Targets (Recruiting)

Clemson Tiger (Jason Priester All Clemson)

With the 2024 recruiting cycle now in full swing, look for the Clemson coaching staff to sign a minimum of two players at the position, and quite possibly three, depending on how things play out with the roster following next season.

With Jalyn Phillips, RJ Mickens and Tyler Venables all deciding to return in 2023, the Tigers have a full room, with eight safeties currently on the roster.

2023 Safeties

  • Jalyn Phillips (5th Yr Sr)
  • Tyler Venables (Sr)
  • RJ Mickens (Sr)
  • Andrew Mukuba (Jr)
  • Sherrod Covil (So)
  • Kylon Griffin (R-Fr)
  • Kylen Webb (Fr)
  • Rob Billings (Fr)

Currently, the staff has zeroed in on a handful of primary targets in the 2024 cycle.

2024 Targets

Mike Matthews (Parkview, Lillburn, Ga): Matthews is one of the top players in the class, regardless of position. Listed as an ATH by most of the services, some schools are recruiting him as a receiver and some as a safety. Clemson sees him as a safety. He last visited for the Tigers' early season win over Louisiana Tech and is expected back for Elite Junior Day this weekend. Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Ohio State all received game day visits last season, as well, with Matthews making multiple stops in Athens.

KJ Bolden (Buford, Ga): Bolden is also widely considered one of the top players in the class and is also listed as an ATH by some of the services. He last visited Clemson for the Tigers' win over NC State and is also expected to be on hand of Elite Junior Day on Saturday. Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio State and Auburn all received in season visits.

Noah Dixon (Troup, Lagrange, Ga): Dixon, arguably a Top 100 talent, is one of those recruits that is hard to get a good read on. He took no fall visits but did attend Junior Day at Georgia Tech earlier this month. He is also expected to be in Clemson for Elite Junior Day.
