With conference realignment and the expanded college football playoff, the ACC is more competitive than ever before. Here are our rankings for the top five teams in the ACC heading into the 2024 season and predictions for which of these top five teams will make the college football playoff.

  1. NC State (9-3, 6-2 ACC)

Despite having the easiest schedule in the ACC heading into 2024, the Wolfpack will still suffer three losses next season against Tennessee, Clemson, and a surprising loss to UNC. While NC State's offense looks primed for a great season under offensive coordinator Robert Anae, they might struggle on the defensive side of the ball without linebacker Payton Wilson.

  1. Virginia Tech (10-2, 6-2 ACC)

The Hokies are going to shock a lot of teams in 2024. Their offense is a threat to every team they play this season, scoring over 40 points in three of their last four games in 2023. Everything was clicking for the Hokies at the end of the season. They will look to build on their success from last season and should only suffer losses to Miami and Clemson in 2024. With two losses within their conference schedule, the Hokies will just barely miss out on a playoff spot.

  1. Miami (10-2, 7-1 ACC)

Each year, the hype around Miami having a great season is always the story, followed by a letdown when the season actually begins. Miami didn't do anything special in 2023, finishing the season 7-6. However, with the addition of quarterback Cam Ward, who was widely regarded as the top transfer portal quarterback, the Miami offense is loaded with weapons heading into 2024. Miami has a tough matchup when they travel to The Swamp to play their rival, Florida. Later in the season, Miami will likely suffer their second loss to Florida State. Despite losing to both in-state rivals, Miami will have a legitimate chance of making the college football playoff.

  1. Clemson (10-2, 7-1 ACC)

Clemson is looking to get back to contending for the ACC Championship in 2024. After bringing in two of the top wide receivers in the 2024 recruiting class, according to 247Sports, in T.J. Moore and Bryant Wesco Jr., and a revamped offensive line under new coach Matt Luke, the Tigers offense looks to be a legitimate threat to teams this season. The argument could be made for the Tigers to come out on top of the rankings; however, traveling to Florida State will be a tough test for the Tigers, who will likely head back home with a loss. The Tigers other loss will come in their first game of the season when they play Georgia on Aug. 31. The Tigers resume should give them a spot in the college football playoff.

  1. Florida State (11-1, 8-0 ACC)

The Seminoles finished the 2023 regular season undefeated and look to have similar success in 2024. Outside of a loss when the Seminoles travel to Notre Dame, Florida State should win the rest of their games. The game to watch this season in the ACC will be on Oct. 5 when Florida State hosts the Clemson Tigers. The Seminoles should live up to their preseason hype if transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei can put up productive numbers for his new team.
