CLEMSON, S.C. — It’s been a dominant first half for the Clemson Tigers as they take a commanding 48-29 lead over Syracuse at halftime. Led by a stellar performance from Chase Hunter, who’s put up 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, the Tigers have been firing on all cylinders.
Hunter’s performance has been the highlight of the opening 20 minutes, knocking down four of five from beyond the arc and giving Clemson a much-needed offensive spark. Alongside him, the Tigers have benefitted from solid contributions across the board, with Jalen Zackery adding 9 points and Ian Schieffelin providing key minutes with 4 points and 2 rebounds.
Syracuse, on the other hand, has struggled to find a rhythm. Despite a hot start from Starling, who has scored 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, the Orange have been plagued by inefficiency and missed opportunities. Their offense has been largely one-dimensional, with Starling scoring the lion’s share of their points. Outside of him, the Syracuse offense has been quiet, with no other player managing to get into double digits.
The Orange’s shooting woes are evident, as they are shooting just 34% from the field, including a disappointing 3-of-12 from three-point range. Their inability to connect from outside has left them relying too heavily on Starling, and it’s clear the Tigers are keying in on stopping him in the second half.
For Clemson, it’s been all about balance. While Hunter has been the focal point, the Tigers have seen contributions from multiple players, and their defense has suffocated Syracuse’s attack. Clemson has been especially tough in the paint.
As the second half looms, the Tigers will look to maintain their momentum and continue their defensive pressure, while Syracuse will need a big turnaround to climb back into this one. With the crowd behind them, Clemson appears poised for a statement victory.
