Wade Woodaz walked into a store where a shirt bearing his nickname “Woopazz” was being bought by a customer.
The Clemson linebacker asked him if liked the shirt and realized that the individual didn’t recognize he was speaking to the man representing the article of clothing.
“I thought it was funny that he didn’t know who I was and he still bought it,” Woodaz said Monday.
That’s something Woodaz, who recorded two interceptions for the Tigers in consecutive weeks, is looking to change. The nickname sure doesn’t hurt either, and once a strength coach and Dabo Swinney himself started using the moniker, Woodaz’s dad and uncle began drawing up prototypes and selling shirts and hats online.
Woodaz contacted a more professional designer and now “Woopazz” shirts are selling in downtown Clemson, thanks to the NIL opportunity.
“I’m gonna keep plugging it to the day I die,” Woodaz said.
Here’s what else the talented sophomore had to say during his media availability:
- On playing No. 4 Florida State this week: We know Florida State is a very good team. We’re going to have to bring our ‘A’ game for sure. Physically, we’re going to have to bring it, which I know that we will. We’re going to give it everything that we’ve got.”
- Woodaz said FSU quarterback Jordan Travis is hard to bring down, even in the pocket, and receiver Johnny Wilson has “elite” size in an “elite” receiving corps.
- Woodaz was accused of being too slow on his interception last week against FAU since he didn’t score on the play like he did the previous week, but he said he ran the second fastest of any Tiger at nearly 21 mph. Only Avion Terrell was faster. “They say I’m too slow. Alright bro, whatever you think.”
- On freshman Khalil Barnes, who had his first INT last week and forced a fumble: Woodaz said Barnes was working as a scout-team receiver in bowl prep last year and was burning defenders. “He looked like LeBron (James) Jr. I’m really happy with how he’s performed. I’m happy he’s on my team.”
