Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik cannot wait to see what spark new offensive coordinator Garrett Riley brings to the Tigers.

“I am really excited about Coach Riley,” Klubnik said on the Next Up Podcast with host Adam Breneman. “He recruited me a little bit at SMU and is a local Texas guy, also. So, we have talked almost every day since he has been here.

“We got to go to the Duke-Clemson basketball game the other day. We know so many people, just connections and stuff.”

One of those people is Riley’s righthand man, who is the son of one of Klubnik’s high school coaches.

“Coach Riley actually bought my high school head coach’s haircut one time when they were both at the same barbershop,” Klubnik said. “We both just know so many (of the same) people. We have gotten along so well. I am just excited about what he is going to bring.”

What Riley brings to Clemson is a top 10 scoring offense from TCU. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney hired Riley to be his new offensive coordinator on Jan. 13, a day after he fired Brandon Streeter.

During his introductory press conference on Feb. 1, Riley said the Clemson offense will be built around his personnel’s strengths, but it will be “violent and fast.”

“It will be a new system. It will be Coach Riley’s system,” Klubnik said. “There are some great things Clemson has been doing in this offense for awhile that I think will stay, but they are figuring it all out right now.

“Coach Riley was like, stay patient with me. We kept our whole O-staff. They only change we made was with Coach Riley, and every other position is the exact same and all the support staff is the exact same, so they are going to be talking us through it for a couple of weeks and figuring out how they are going to do all of this. He just said, stay patient with me and we will figure it all out and I will let you know soon.”

Quote of the week

“People ask me what I do in the winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”
