Klubnik Looking to Add More Bulk (Football)

Cade Klubnik is looking to add a little more bulk.

The rising sophomore quarterback currently weighs just shy of 200 pounds and is looking to add up to another ten pounds prior to the start of fall camp.

"I'm about 198 right now," Klubnik said. "I want to be about 207-208 by next season. That's the plan."

The former 5-star quarterback plans to do a lot of eating over the summer to ensure he hits that goal.

"Eating a lot," he said. "Six meals a day... Five or six meals a day."

"Last year, as you might know, I went from like 179 to about 187. And I feel like I was faster at the end of it. So I was 18 pounds (heavier), and lost about five or six during the season, as everybody does."

However, it's not quite as simple as just sitting down and eating more. Part of what makes Klubnik so dangerous is his speed.

The quarterback run has long been one of the staples of the Clemson offense. With Garrett Riley now the offensive coordinator, and Klubnik as his quarterback, that isn't likely to change.

After taking over for DJ Uiagalelei in the ACC Championship Game, Klubnik's agility was on full display at times, as was his speed. Especially in the Orange Bowl loss to Tennessee, when he rushed for more than 50 yards. Maintaining that speed at a heavier weight will be key.

"I mean our strength staff does a great job," Klubnik said. "From lifting heavy but also running and just keeping our speed doing a lot of speed work and agility work. I mean, that's all props to them. I just feel great. I feel like I'm gonna feel great by August."
