Clemson DL Peter Woods Ready to Show Off 'Position Versatility' (Football)

After his freshman All-American season in 2023, expectaions are extremely high for Clemson DL Peter Woods.

While Woods started just twice during his freshman campaign, he appeared in all 12 of the Tigers' games and was a force along the interior of Clemson's defensive line.

As a sophomore, Woods will get to show off more of his pass rushing skills. The former 5-star is making the move outside to end, and Woods is expecting a smooth transition. Although, that doesn't mean he won't continue to still line up inside at times.

"Primarily, that's where I'm lined up right now, for the most part," Woods said about the move to DE. "It'd be kind of a situational thing. Position versatility has been a big thing, even throughout my recruitment. So, it was not really a surprise to me; something I actually expected after having a year in the program. We got some dogs across the whole line. So, wherever I'm needed is where I'm willing to play."

After playing last season well over 300 pounds, Woods is planning to shed a little of the weight in anticipation of the move.

"My goal is 290-285 and that's really where I played in high school," Woods said. "So, I'm a lot closer to that goal than I was this time last year. I can already feel it. Just the fluidity, just playing the position, it feels good."

Along with what he is already learning from DT coach Nick Eason, Woods will now have the luxury of playing under new DE coach Chris Rumph, something that should pay huge dividends for a Clemson defense that is short on experienced depth at end.

"He just brings the energy every day," Woods said. "I'll probably say that's the biggest thing. He just motivates you. He's a guy that you want to play for, you want to go hard for because you know how passionate he is about this game, coaching us, and developing us as men."
