Clemson junior running back Will Shipley will not return to the game at NC State.

Shipley went down in the second quarter after taking a hard shot to the back/neck area near the Wolfpack goal line following a run. Shipley was on the ground for several minutes before walking off on his own power.

He was examined in the medical tent but didn't return in the first half. The broadcast team for the CW said Dabo Swinney told them at halftime Shipley would not play in the second half.

There were no other specifics on his status.

Shipley had 21 yards on six carries before the injury as Clemson scored on the drive he was injured to cut NC State's lead to 10-7 at the half. He also caught two passes for 20 yards in Raleigh.

Phil Mafah, who shares backfield duties, had 13 rushing yards and a touchdown on five carries in the first half.

Shipley came into the game as the team's leading rusher with 504 yards, and he's started all eight games this season.
