CHARLOTTE, NC- Under head coach Dino Babers, Syracuse has given Clemson all it can handle at times, even knocking off the Tigers 27-24 at home back in 2017.

Last season, the Orange fell to Clemson 27-21 in Death Valley. However, Syracuse began the fourth quarter with a 21-10 lead. Behind backup quarterback Cade Klubnik and a strong running game, the Tigers would come roaring back, outscoring the Orange 17-0 over the final 15 minutes.

The season before that, Clemson squeaked out a 17-14 win on the road and Orange starting quarterback Garrett Shrader is fully expecting another tightly contested battle in 2023.

"I'm confident in the ability and the skill that we have in our players," Shrader said. "We can play with anybody in the conference. There's no doubt. I truly mean that. There is not a team that we can't line up against, when we're healthy... we can beat them."

Shrader noted that Clemson's reputation for being one of the nation's best programs seems to bring out the best in their opponents, including the Orange.

"I think the reputation that coach Swinney has, and that program that he's built," Shrader said. "They are obviously one of the best teams in the country typically. So keeping that in mind, most of the time, Clemson is going to get everybody's best."

"It's hard to sustain that. To continue to win games knowing everyone is going to give you their best punches every week."

However, Shrader feels like this just might be the year that Syracuse can once again finally conquer the mighty Tigers. Win or lose, though, the veteran signal caller anticipates a very compelling matchup.

"This year, I think it's our year to take them down.... Hopefully," Shrader said with a smile. We just got to be ready to play and take it one week at a time.

"You thought the last two were good, I think this one will be much more exciting."
