Clemson Lands Commitment From 5-Star LB Sammy Brown (Recruiting)

Clemson has added a crucial piece to its 2024 recruiting class, as 5-star LB Sammy Brown announced a commitment to the Tigers.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound player, out of Jefferson High School (Ga), chose Clemson over other finalists Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Tennessee, but over the past several months this came down to a battle between Dabo Swinney's Tigers and Kirby Smart's Bulldogs.

Brown is considered the top linebackers in the country and is arguably one of the five best players in the class, regardless of position. He has been one of the most sought-after recruits in the country, and holds close to 30 offers total.

The elite-level prospect has taken numerous visits to both Georgia and Clemson over the past 12 months, but it was his most recent visit that put the Tigers over the top.

Brown was one of close to 20 uncommitted prospects to take an official visit to Clemson last weekend. Afterwards, he chose to cancel all of his remaining visits to each of his finalists, including one to Athens that was scheduled for next weekend. He had already taken one to Tennessee the weekend prior.

Culture played a big role in this decision. Throughout his recruitment, Brown has maintained he was looking for the best fit.

"I think culture is one of the most important things when looking for a school," Brown told All Clemson Tigers after a visit during the season. "Just because I want to be in a good culture that's pretty similar to where I am in high school and in my family life and whatnot. I just want to be pretty similar to that. I think Clemson is very similar, they have probably one of the best cultures in college football.

Brown had long been planning to follow up with all of his visits then likely make a decision in July, but he always left open the possibility of a decision coming sooner. That is exactly what transpired.

"There's always a possibility that I go to any school and just something clicks and I'm like, 'this is the place.' This is where I want to go and I can commit on the spot," Brown said.

The addition of Brown now gives Clemson a total of nine commitments. He is the second linebacker take in the class, joining 3-star Drew Woodaz, who announced a commitment earlier in the spring. He is the first to announce coming off Clemson's big official visit weekend, and if what happened a year ago after the same event last June is any indication, more are sure to follow. Buckle up, it is going to be a busy summer.
